LASTING MEMORIES:

On August 29, 1980 The City of Medford signed a Sister City Declaration with Nobeoka, Japan.  Since then the Medford Rotary club has sponsored an international student exchange program to promote a cultural exchange between the two cities.

On odd numbered years the Medford Rotary sends two high school students to Japan for two weeks to experience the Japanese culture.  On even numbered years the Rotarians host two students from Japan for two weeks.

Medford Rotary rolled out the welcome mat for two visiting student ambassadors from Medford's sister-city, Nobeoka Japan.  During their two week stay, Masaya Yano and Yuri Hiroki were hosted by Rotarians as well as Medford's student ambassadors from 2009, Sarah Mason and Will Durney.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the City of Medford's Sister City pledge that was signed in 1980 by then Mayor Paul Donato and Nobeoka's Mayor Takahiko Hayanari.

During their stay in the US, their busy schedule included a visit with Mayor Michael McGlynn, a trip to the lakes in NH, and a Red Sox game with starter Dice-K Matsuzaka.  Two students ambassadors from Medford will represent the City when Nobeoka hosts the program in 2011.
